When: Jan 24 – 26, 2014
This January, the Friends of Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary are bringing the world of cinema to Alpena!
For one weekend in January, residents and travelers to northeast Michigan will be treated to some of the most impressive ocean and Great Lakes-inspired films from around the world. Film topics include Great Lakes surfing, Arctic exploration, marine wildlife, and plastic pollution. Multiple film screenings will be complemented by social events, and even opportunities to meet filmmakers!
Features of the Alpena event include films from the San Francisco International Ocean Film Festival, an acclaimed festival of ocean-themed films that are largely unavailable to the general public. Also featured will be a number of Great Lakes films, presented by the filmmakers themselves.
The Thunder Bay Film Festival gets underway on the evening of Friday, January 24 with an opening reception and continues Saturday and Sunday with additional movie screenings, filmmaker panels, educational events, and social affairs.
